Separate the platform subscription, development work and ongoing operating costs before comparing Shopify quotations.
Start with the three parts of the budget
A Shopify website budget has at least three parts: the platform and provider charges, the work needed to build the storefront, and the ongoing time or support needed to operate it. Comparing only an initial design quotation can hide the costs that recur after launch.
Write down the catalogue size, required product information, delivery process and integrations before requesting a quote. A simple store with prepared content is a different project from a migration with custom product rules and an external stock system.
Check the current platform price directly
On 14 October 2026, Shopify’s official India pricing page displayed Basic at ₹1,499 per month when billed yearly, or ₹1,994 when paying monthly. Treat these as a dated reference, not a permanent offer. Check current billing terms, taxes, promotions and eligibility on Shopify’s own page.
The plan price is not the development fee. Domain registration, a paid theme, optional apps and payment-provider charges may add to the total. Confirm which account owns each subscription and who receives renewal notices.
Ask what the development quotation includes
The build scope should identify templates, editable sections, product setup, content preparation, testing and handover. If an existing theme is being customised, ask which changes are included. If a custom design is proposed, ask how many distinct layouts and review stages are covered.
Migration, API work, unusual delivery rules and multilingual content should be listed clearly. A low quotation is hard to compare when it excludes the catalogue or integrations that your business actually needs.
Plan for the months after launch
Allocate responsibility for product updates, app reviews, enquiry handling and any agreed maintenance. Marketing spend is separate from building the store. No agency can promise a sales total merely because a storefront has been published.
Compare quotations using the same written requirements. Ask for one-time costs, recurring costs, assumptions and exclusions on separate lines. That gives you a practical basis for deciding what to build now and what can wait.
